I was really restrained when ordering the pizza- I’ve never restricted myself to a “personal” size before. I am usually too greedy.

Gosh, I’ve not heard of the personal size before. A Dominos just opened up here and shoved a thingy through the door. I shall go dig it up.

My fave way to eat a pizza is with a leaf salad dressed with lemon juice and olive oil. I create a wrap of a pizza slice around a handful of salad. You get wonderful contrasts of hot/cold but also of tart with rich. I don’t like eating pizzas without a salad nowadays!

    Ah, it’s 7″

We’ve been getting 7″ pizza bases with tomato and cheese from Tesco and Waitrose. They’re 334 calories each (Tesco?). You can add your own toppings and bake (from frozen) for 10 mins. Can save time and money if not calories.

Funny you should say that. I bought a Tesco “Light Choices” Margherita pizza from the chiller section and it’s 405 calories for the whole thing. I didn’t think that was too bad, as it seems quite big. (isn’t it funny how 500 calories seems like a lot for a meal now? I’m really disappointed if I get to dinner time and have had more than 500 calories for the rest of the day)

Yup, 500 calories seems like a lot to me. A decent-sized pizza at 405 calories sounds great. Especially as I often add a chopped red pepper and onion as a topping.

Compare calories between the Tesco Light Choices range with the Value equivalents next time you’re shopping. They usually put the Value stuff out of reach on the bottom shelf.

We buy from the Value range whenever it’s available. It saves us about 150 quid a month (compared to shopping at Waitrose) and the items are just as good.

Hmmm… that’s interesting. I’m amazed that buying the value stuff saves you that much! I’ve bought the stewed tomatoes, tissues and few other things and I’ve always found the quality is pretty good.

Do you think Waitrose is really that much more expensive? I used to notice my shopping bill at Sainsburys always seemed a lot more. (for similar stuff) Unfortunately, Sainsburys is near my house. Tescos is across town. I wonder if the difference in food prices in each would be worth the petrol?

I’m going to try and buy loads of value stuff next time and see how it makes a difference.

Yup, Waitrose is really that much more expensive than Tesco (maybe even if not accounting for the Value range). We do a big food shop about every 3 weeks. It’s between 75 and 150 pounds at Tesco but always over 200 at Waitrose for the same kinds of things. Our local supermarket is Waitrose. Instead we drive to the massive Tesco in Camberley, 9 miles away.

Our staples: veg, fruit, pasta, chocolate hazelnut spread, peanut butter, orange juice, fizzy water, tinned tomatoes, biscuits, sweet & sour sauce, cereal, kitchen towels, pizza bases, plasters, sanitary towels, face wipes, gin, and lots more that I can’t remember.
