What I didn’t eat!

I’m aware I indulged at breakfast and will have less tomorrow. We had a break at 10:30 and all the delegates (who didn’t stay overnight at the hotel) were served toast and danish pastries, and even though I love warm, fresh danish pastries, I didn’t have one. At lunch I passed over the rather delicious looking fresh strawberries and cream sponge cake with pouring cream and during the afternoon break, I passed up the chance to indulge in shortbread, oatmeal and a few other varieties of biscuit. Dinner this evening, I passed up a starter and a dessert and only had a glass of wine because a) my colleague was feeling bad drinking a whole bottle to himself when I was drinking water and b) I’ve told him I’m going to be leaving my job this year so we won’t do another of these sessions together, ever again. I’m now feeling, after very little wine, rather tiddly! *hic* :-)

Breakfast Yoghurt 125
1.5 slices toast & marmalade 180
Cereal 180
Lunch Chicken curry + rice 300
Small side salad + roll 200
Dinner Grilled chicken breast + chips 250
Bread roll 200
Drinks Med. glass wine 100

Back on the Blog, Hooray!

After a two-week hiatus when I had only patchy and sporadic access to the internet, I can now blog to my heart’s content. (I think it also says a lot about myself that I took the excuse not to diet as well) I have to say, I really missed you all and your support. I must take an hour or so soon and catch up on your news.

Here are my totals for today. I would have done much better had I not been starving at tea time when I made Lucy a pizza for her dinner. (and helped her eat it! I must stop doing that) It’s hard to be virtuous when there’s a pizza going begging.

Meal Food | Drink Calories
Breakfast Low fat toast with scrambled egg (no yolk) 100
Lunch 1/2 Beef pie with shorcrust pastry 200
Dinner grilled rib eye steak (1/2 lb?) 500 ?
roasted new potato wedges with rosemary, garlic and cajun spices 85
baked beans 70
1 glass of rose wine 80
2 glasses of diet coke 0
snack 1/2 Lucy’s pizza 300
Total 1,335

Sunday – Journey North

2 June 2008 at 6:56 pm (food diary, weigh-in)

Posted by Anna

I had a reasonable lunch and knew the timings of the train would mean I’d arrive too late to sit down to dinner, so stopped at one of the eateries at Euston Station and picked up a baguette and banana. I’d intended to get some soup or similar when I arrived but both the bar food and restaurant had shut and I didn’t want the faff of room service. So, the final count was rather low…

Breakfast Yoghurt 70
Lunch Diet chicken and broccoli pie 272
Dinner Egg & tomato baguette 450
Banana 70
Drinks 2 cups of tea + various 0 cal bevs 20
Total Calories 882

I also did my weigh-in yesterday — 1 lb lost.

Big Pot of Soup

2 June 2008 at 2:22 pm (recipe)

Posted by Sylvia

Last week, one frustration was that I didn’t have any food made up in advance – I really just wanted to be able to heat something up and eat it, whilst feeling secure that I wasn’t taking in pointless calories.

Today I realised that the fridge desperately needed a clean-out, so I decided to kill two birds with one stone. I took all the wilting veg and made vegetable stock out of it. Then I looked up versions of this this triple-carb soup that I’ve been thinking about. I took a leaf out of Paola’s book and looked up the calories per item first so I could judge it:

potato, raw, +skin 69/100g
white beans 139/100g
pasta 210/100g

That was easy to rank! The soup recipe ended up as follows:

434g raw potato (2 medium) 300
110g onion (2 small) 44
5 cloves garlic 22
20g chicken stock cube 40
100g chard 19
tinned tomato in juice 136
*10g oregano 5
50g pasta 110
200g white beans 278
*1 litre vegetable stock 40
Total Calories 994

Total weight: 2696

That means 540 grams soup per 200 calories – that sounds like a lot!

The downside of cooking is that I ate 20g of beans just in testing to see if they were cooked through yet! I’ve added them to my daily total. I tried a bite of the soup and it’s really nice! I can’t wait for dinner time now.
