Graph of daily totals (to day 154)

I’ve updated my earlier graph (to day 74) of daily totals. This graph shows totals and trends of calories, protein, carbohydrates, fats and fibre. The calories use the right axis – everything else is in grams against the left axis.

I’m impressed that calories, fat and carbs are trending down, whilst fibre and protein are trending up.

12:45pm  Melon with beef, prunes, rye bread and soft cheese + pint of fizzy squash

I didn’t have any (vegetarian) Parma ham and so had beef-style slices instead with my melon! An interesting brunch to say the least.

I planned this meal in advance after calculating my calories so far. I actually wanted to have some of Frank’s Ben & Jerry’s Caramel Crunch ice cream but I worked out that I’d only get 80g (212 calories). Instead, I had the rest of the soup and some biscuits with port.

And the moral of the story is…

8 June 2008 at 8:18 pm (food diary, weigh-in)

As you can see, the needle didn’t move this week. Actually mid-way through the week I was alarmed to see 2 lbs go on, so was glad it seemed to go again by the end of the week!

My Weight Chart:
Weight Chart

Emma stayed over and we planned to go up to Covent Garden. There was a particular shop I wanted to take her to, but when I checked the website this morning, I discovered it’s closed Sundays. Emma still wanted to go up there. I’d had my yoghurt at 7am and by nearly 11am was feeling quite hungry. Knowing it would be hard to find decent (diet) food there, I decided to make a snack before I went and whisked some egg and skimmed milk together and stuck it in the microwave, toasted some bread and had that with pineapple to follow. Despite telling me she wasn’t hungry, as soon as it was done, I could see Emma eying my meal up, so I gave her some of it. We left at midday.

It was hot today and not wanting to lug bottles of water around meant feeling thirsty a lot of the time. Having wandered around a few shops, at 2pm we went to Caffe Nero where Emma had a lasagne and I stuck to a Diet Coke. But as we wandered around the many shops and market stalls, and surrounded by the aromas of a thousand pavement cafes, I began to feel hungry! By late afternoon I was famished and finally caved in and had a toasted cheese baguette (before the diet I would have gone for something sweet). I was aware the calories would be sky high and a very poor use of my daily allocation but I’d gone into several cafes and nothing took my fancy.

The moral of my story is, take food with me when I know I’m going to be out all day and unlikely to find something suitable, or ensure I’m near a supermarket where I can buy low-calorie food to go. :-)

Day 153: Camping with Becky

10:45am  Strawberry Ribena @ train station

I was too busy picking out beads to eat before I left for the day. At 130 calories, I figured it provided enough energy as a small breakfast.

On to London to meet my friend, Yvonne, for lunch before doing the Art & Antiques Fair at Olympia.

12:15pm  Mushroom pizza with mixed salad + diet Coke @ Pizza Express

I remembered what Becky said about ‘personal’ size pizzas and I asked the waitress whether they did child pizzas. She scrunched her face and said yes but that they weren’t allowed to sell them to adults.

Yvonne knows her calories and has been very interested and supportive of my diet. I told her my idea was to either have a whole pizza w/o cheese or share one with her. She agreed to share a mushroom pizza. The waitress said there was no problem serving the two halves on separate plates. Go figure.

We both had a side salad. It came with a creamy but vinegary dressing; can you believe it, I left a little of the dressing-soaked salad behind.

I left at 5:30pm to get a train to Basingstoke to meet up with Frank to go to Ian & Becky’s for dinner.

9pm  Poppadoms + vegetable curries with rice + sorbet + wine @ Becky’s

I was hugely impressed and grateful when Becky gave me sheet with the calories of what she’d prepared for the meal!

I knew there would be wine and had previously decided to have some. I had a very nice rosé. We started with poppadoms (2), chutneys and pickles.

Becky made two types of vegetable curry – korma and rogan josh – and served poached chicken separately for the omnivores. Very nice to have a decent curry. We had lemon and mango sorbet afterwards with coffee.

Slob day!

8 June 2008 at 10:02 am (food diary)

Posted by Anna

Yesterday was a ’slob’ day as I had very little energy following an exhausting 10 days. I had lunch on my own at home and then met up with Emma at 3:30 as she wanted to introduce me to a new tea place that’s opened in Richmond. I just ordered a regular pot of tea, but she had the cream tea with earl grey. Her cream tea consisted of 4 mini-scones — about 1.5″ in diameter — plus clotted cream and strawberry preserve. I had half of a scone, with a tiny amount of cream spread thinly like butter, and a few drops of the (runny) preserve (I’ve based my figures on a standard-sized Tesco Finest scone being 225 cals — given that my portion would have been about a quarter of that and the accompaniments were tiny amounts, my final figure is probably still too high).

Later back at my place, Emma finished off the tomato & marscapone sauce I’d bought from Waitrose and I popped over to Sainsbury’s and picked out a Count On Us biryani curry. I felt conscious that I’d had a lot of carbohydrates (pasta and rice) and am considering having a low-carb week, but will need to get my act together to plan the menu, buy the food and be prepared to make things in advance to take to work for lunch (OMG, foward planning…eek!). I find the preparation of food tedious in the extreme (hence my reliance on ready meals), so it’s going to take a lot of self-discipline. Watch this space… :-)

Breakfast Yoghurt 125
Lunch Pasta + half-fat tomato & marscapone sauce 367
Snack 1/2 mini scone + 1/4 tspn clotted cream + 1/4 tspn jam 150
Dinner Low-fat chicken biriyani 382
Drinks 2 cups of tea + various 0 cal bevs 20
