Saturday Picnic

The picnic was fun. I was challenged to find things at the last minute which wouldn’t push my calorie intake over the limit. For the past few weeks, I’ve been trying to avoid bread, amongst other starchy carbs, but couldn’t really on Friday night as I needed to grab something that I could quickly gulp down. I bought a roll for the picnic too, and just nibbled at it through the afternoon to stave off any hunger. I was aware without counting, that my ‘lunch’ intake was high, so kept my evening meal to a minimum. It was a fun afternoon and I’m pleased I stayed within my limit. I have another picnic in a couple of weeks, so I shall probably stick to a similar menu.

Breakfast Yoghurt 70

Lunch 3 cocktail sausages 90

Friday was a weird day! We had someone leaving who asked me to bake him cupcakes on his last day, which I did. We trundled off to a Lebanese restaurant for lunch on the Kings Road and while everyone feasted on a selection of shared dishes, I just had a shawarma, which is a kind kebab in a thin unleavened bread wrap. I wish I could be more assertive, as I tried to point out my bill was half everyone else’s but still ended up having to fork out the same as everyone else, which irritated me.

At the presentation, the cakes got rolled out and I had half of one after everyone badgered me saying I should have one if I’d baked them. I didn’t actually enjoy it that much, as it was so sickly sweet. Paola came up with a great retort to this, which is to say I’ve already had one and that should shut them up! I shall keep that for next time. :-)

We went for drinks after work, but I only stayed for one diet coke, and then headed home to meet Emma. I’d been given free tickets for a Bon Jovi concert just down the road to me in Twickenham Stadium. I grabbed some hot chicken and roll from Waitrose on the way home and woofed it down! It was a fab concert — I’m not a fan but as expected, it was a great atmosphere and I was able to sing along to the songs I recognised.

Back at my flat, I had a tub of cottage cheese as I was conscious my calorie count was on the low side. A busy day!

We went out with some friends this afternoon and I ate a lot more than I should have. The calories are bad enough, but what bothers me most is that I was pretty full early on, but just kept eating.

In better news, this evening, my husband was hungry and suggested we run out and get something to eat. He said something along the lines of, “well, if you’ve already blown it today, what’s a little something else?” But I resisted, remembering my recent post about not falling prey to the “all or nothing” mentality. I’m feeling a little hungry now and may still have a yogurt and/or a piece of lowfat cheese. I’ve added the calories just in — just in case.

Anyway, tomorrow is my chance to do much, much better.

The afternoon was the June net meet organised by Anna in Richmond Park. The last time I was there for a net meet was in 1996(?) and was also the first and last time I met Sylvia in person.

I made a beetroot salad for me and took two 240g portions and made a salmon salad for Frank. I also took some fake chicken slices, rye bread, clementines and bananas. I had fizzy squash and Frank had lager and cakes.

Evening drink: tea

8:45pm  Tomatoes and beans with dumplings + chocolate+ pint of fizzy squash

I served myself a medium portion but there was a couple of dumplings left without the beans. After a moment’s hesitation, having debated throwing the remainder away, I added it to my bowl and told myself I’d eat slowly and would stop if I felt full before finishing. But I ate it while watching penultimate episode of Doctor Who and I forgot all about my pledge.

I knew I shouldn’t have the crackers and cheese – I wasn’t even hungry, I just wanted the flavour. :(

I considered having one more cracker and was finally stern with myself, so at least I didn’t fall into the “oh well, I’ve blown it now” trap. I think I need to be careful not to balance things too heavily in favour of lunch, as then I get the munchies late at night.

Will be on my own for the next few days – considering relaxing my calorie count a little bit and having some treats. But on the other hand, I’ve only got a fortnight before we become overrun with guests and restaurants and high calorie cooking. So it makes sense to stay really strict now and lose another few pounds, first!
