Whoops! A bit low again!
Lunch wasn’t as pleasing at it looked. I’ve now remembered why I don’t go for leg of chicken. It doesn’t taste as nice and by the time you’ve scraped off the meat from the bone, you’ve often lost the will to live!
So, by mid-afternoon I was hungry. I went to the staff cafe (the canteen shuts at 2:30pm) and seriously considered buying their sweet and sour chicken offering. Other than that, there wasn’t much a diet-conscious lady could have — a huge selection of freshly-baked cakes plus sandwiches and various home made mousse desserts. They only offer Granny Smith apples which are too sour for me, and bananas which I’m avoiding, along with other starchy carbs. I would have popped down the road to the little Sainsbury’s Local, but it was torrential showers all afternoon (I bet you don’t miss English weather, Sylvia!).
I nicked some of my managers nuts (he always has a supply of yummy nuts from M&S) which helped. At 5pm we had a birthday presentation for someone in the office, which always involves lots of cake (I didn’t bake any on this occasion). I had a very small piece of a white chocolate cookie (a square about 1.5″) which left a sickly taste in the back of my throat until I had a few more of my manager’s nuts. :-)
Dinner tonight was more satisfying, but I think I squeaked out loud when I calculated my calories, so even though I’m feeling full, I forced down a load of cherries to try to up my score! Tomorrow I shall take some fruit into work and I’ll have a bigger breakfast.
