Lunch and dinner out

It’s been a hectic day, today. The training team from Liverpool came down for a pow-wow with the London training team and this afternoon was spent doing a treasure hunt in Covent Garden (cross-site team bonding stuff) and then to dinner. Tomorrow we get down to more ’serious’ stuff back at base all day, and they leave tomorrow afternoon.

Because I knew we were going out to dinner, I planned on a very light breakfast and lunch. That plan went out the window, however. This morning, we had auditors come in for 3 hours as part of an application for a national training award and we all did a lot of work in preparation. As a thank you, after the auditors left, our boss took us out to lunch to Wasaba in Wardour Street. So my tub of cottage cheese and salad is languishing in the fridge in our office.

To minimise the damage, I opted for 2 side dishes which were very tasty. Lots of walking around to find the clues helped walk it off before heading to the Med Kitchen in St Martin’s Lane for a nice dinner. Once again, to minimise damage, I went for the ‘light option’ and although the chicken came in a bun, I only had the bottom bit, plus a few chips.

Obviously all calorie calculations are approximate, but I actually didn’t eat that much.

Breakfast Yoghurt 75

Lunch Chicken satay (sm side dish) 150
Mini spring rolls (sm side dish) 250

Dinner Chicken salad sandwich 250
8 chips 250
Sub-total 500
Drinks 1 cup of tea + various 0 cal bevs 10

Sunday Monday Happy Days

Sunday

I’m getting the hang of this vegetarian thing. I made a cream of asparagus soup with a healthy dollop of Sharwoods green curry sauce followed by this Asian-inspired salad. I’m not saying it’s low calorie (HOW many tablespoons of oil?) but it’s got to be better than cheese encased in butter pastry, right?

We went to a TexMex place for dinner. I should have realised it was not going to be my thing when I saw “Nachos with or without cheese” on the menu (this is the equivalent of white coffee with or without milk) but I’m always so hopeful about southwestern food. :(

So I had the deep fried jalapenos which were not fresh and filled with some sort of weird orange mixture which was NOT cheese followed by the chicken quesadilla. I realised about three quarters of the way through that I really wasn’t enjoying it (greasy and just not very flavourful) and that I’d much rather have the same dishes home-made. But I don’t make them at home because it’s too many calories. Not very logical, really. So I left the rest of the plate but I probably shouldn’t get any extra points for this because I also had three margaritas.

Monday

We did a buffet for lunch so I really should have been restrained. I had more of the salad with minimal dressing but I also had two bread rolls with ham and goats cheese. But I didn’t have any beer – so I didn’t just give in and say to hell with it.

I needed to sort out dinner quickly and I’m afraid I went on the high-fat side: grilled chicken pieces with chips and creamy corn and coleslaw with mayonnaise. Of all the dishes, I figured the coleslaw was the least damaging so I piled that on my plate and only had a little bit of the other dishes. I’m a bit annoyed at myself for not planning better. I’m going to work out a couple of menus – or at least side dishes – with low calorie components so that when I’m trying to work out what to make, fast, I have some positive ideas ready for me. I had some wine and also two glasses of Mrs Walker’s (like Bailey’s but much much better) which was probably 1,200 calories alone. :(

Today

Today I weighed in at 76.2 – argh! I am going to start weighing myself daily to frighten me into behaving. I’m going for a long walk with Connor and then we are having lunch out. I’ll take the pedometer and I might update twitter with photos along the way. I’ve been walking every day to counteract the additional calories but clearly it’s not been enough.
