Manky metatarsal
I had to go to the hospital today to get my feet x-rayed. The difference between this third time and the last 2 times is that this was private and the consultant I saw is one of the top orthopaedic sugeons in the country. He spotted the fracture of my 2nd metatarsal the moment he saw my x-ray results. And there it was, plain as day. Even I could see it, so how come it’s been overlooked up to now?
He asked me if I had started doing more exercise, to which I replied yes, about 2-3 weeks before it flared up I began doing long walks to and from work. And there you have it — a stress fracture of the kind that Becks and Rooney get. I’m up there with them! :-)
My foot is on the mend, so I’m supposed to try to rest it and keep it elevated as much as possible. This didn’t work today as I ended up doing 13,500 steps and now it’s very swollen and throbbing. At least I now know why. It’s a relief to know finally what’s wrong.
I managed to gulp down a yoghurt at the hospital in St John’s Wood this morning before I saw him. I got back just in time for lunch and opted for the omelette as I knew we were eating tonight and I didn’t want to go to the restaurant starving and then end up eating too much! My plan worked…
We went to a Thai restaurant in Fulham Broadway called “The Sugar Hut”. I arranged to pay separately as I wasn’t having a starter, a dessert or wine (which everyone else did). The sweet and sour chicken was very tasty and I had only a small amount of the rice to go with it. My meal was accompanied by tap water (I thought £4 for a bottle of water was a bit extortionate). All in all, I was pretty much on target for my daily allowance, which I’m pleased about. :-)

Food Wordle
My latest obsession is Wordle – it turns any text (or RSS feed or del.icio.us tags) into a cloud, where the more often a word is used, the bigger it ends up in the visualisation.
Here’s the Wordle for the blog’s recent posts.
I quite like the group “paola pasta nuts breast”.
