Day 266: The Puppini Sisters

Photos are not quite right; my camera’s died and I’m not used to Frank’s.

10:10am  Warm apple with cottage cheese + spiced tea

I’m quite getting into warmed apples. This is the first time I’ve tried the spiced tea bags. I had chai tea at Starbucks. The supermarket has two kinds of teabags – one with dried milk (40 calories a bag!) and one without. Nice.

Feeling better than I did yesterday – but still felt a bit headachy and sinussy this afternoon though. Nowhere near as bad as before though, which is a relief.

Hard to estimate how much exercise, but it was a fairly long walk up from the carpark (up a hill too!) and we were walking pretty constantly while we were there (4 hours) except for lunchtime, a brief sit down in the playground and stopping to watch a falconry display. I went for the conservative estimate of 1.5 hrs at 2mph though we probably did more.

Time for the scores on the doors:

Morning drink: hot chocolate

I was feeling low. My young neighbour friends came round and I made some hot chocolate and sat out the front in the sun to read things with them. We played some games but my mood was getting worse to the point that we ended up having the worst game ever of the Sticky Wobble game we’d invented.

2:30pm  Cottage cheese salad + pint of fizzy squash + hot apple

I fancied something sweet but warm. I nuked an apple and then added biscuit crumbs and cream cheese. Very yum.

Feeling worse, looking likely to be PMT, I gave in to it and went to bed, hoping to wake up when the dark cloud had passed.

9:45pm  Coconut pancakes + tea

I got up around 7pm, too late to go to the afternoon’s meet which had started at 4pm. But the dark cloud had gone.

I fancied coffee and cake. I made pancakes instead, with wholemeal flour and dessicated coconut (the photo shows two servings).

Day 33 – Migraine

27 September 2008 at 9:33 pm (food diary)

Posted by Georgina

Bit of a weird day today. I suppose I should have noticed something was up the last few days – I’ve been getting motion sickness/car sickness when I’ve been driving which is just weird. Plus those food cravings and hitting the carbs a couple of days ago.

It started out as a sort of sinussy headache thing, so I took a decongestant and a nurofen and tried to carry on with my day. It wasn’t until I got the dizziness, nausea and extreme noise intolerance that I realised it was a migraine. Not nice. Haven’t had one in over a year, so was a bit of a shock.

Meal Food | Drink Calories
Breakfast BREAD White, Medium Sliced 83
Butter salted 36
MARMALADE Orange, Shredless, Average 26
Cup of Tea 49
Total 194

I started out feeling very groggy and slow to get going, so hubby kindly made me a piece of toast and a cuppa.

Meal Food | Drink Calories
Morning Tea Cup of Tea 49

Almost immediately needed another cup of tea. Knew I wasn’t 100% at this point, but had lots to get done.

Meal Food | Drink Calories
Lunch BREAD White 200
Butter salted 36
Cheese cheddar 81
HAM Honey Roast, Average 18
Total 335

Rob made us lunch and this was the point where I took the nurofen and decongestant.

Meal Food | Drink Calories
Afternoon Tea Cup of Tea 49

Something hot and sweet to keep me going while I cooked the dinner.

Sweetcorn Fritter 142
Bisto GRAVY Granules For Chicken, Made Up 17
Sainsbury’s SAUCE Cranberry 15
Total 364

Wouldn’t normally have a roast dinner on a Saturday, but we’re going out tomorrow to see friends and I’d already ordered the stuff in – the leftovers will at least make an easy tea tomorrow evening when we get back.

Felt really ill by the point I’d made it though, and had fairly small portions of everything and went to bed for a bit shortly after.

Meal Food | Drink Calories
Late Cup of Tea 49
Bananas raw 121
Cadbury HOT CHOCOLATE Instant Break 119
Total 289

Another cup of tea when I got up again as I was cold and shivery, then later on a banana and I now feel much better. Looking forward to an early night though.

No exercise today. I was planning on going out on a gentle bike ride with my eldest son, but it just didn’t happen for obvious reasons.

Day 265: weigh-in

Posted by Paola

Weekly weigh-in: 2 lbs gained (total: 58 lbs / 26.3 kg in 38 weeks)

My average daily calories this week was 1,600. It means that, if I continue to have no exercise, my maintenance level after I reach my target is NOT gonna be 1,600.

Day 32 – It’s Friday!

Oops, I forgot to post this yesterday.

I remembered to only have one weetabix today.

Meal Food | Drink Calories
Morning Tea COFFEE Black 5
Milk 3.7% fat 189

I had a really good bike ride this morning, but felt a bit headachy on my return, so although I wasn’t hungry I decided to have a latte to head off any potential low blood sugar badness. I did perk up a bit afterwards, but not sure if that was the extra calories, the caffeine or the nurofen I had with it!

Lunch BREAD French Stick 68

I’m getting a bit bored of this as a lunch now. Must come up with some other “stuff out of the fridge” ideas for next week.

Homemade beefburger in a bun, with homemade oven chips and a salad. I’m still not great at making oven chips – they always stick badly to the bottom of the tin, and I don’t know why.

Meal Food | Drink Calories
Late WINE White, Dry 119
Galaxy Smooth Dark Chocolate 104

I quite like having wine in the evening. If I sip it slowly it distracts me from getting any other snacks and I actually end up eating less in the evening.

I’m getting good at this cycling thing!

Day 46: Heartburn

27 September 2008 at 4:08 am (food diary)

Posted by Ginni

I was good at breakfast until lunch time

Breakfast:

low carb toast with raisins and low Becel margarine

A cup of tea with 1 sugar

Fresh squeezed orange juice

Lunch:

Indian Buffet (but my portion size was v good) – I did not over load the serving spoon and just took a little bit of everything. I would say slightly larger than a tablespoon but smaller than the serving spoon?

1spoon rice

1 serving spoon chick peas

1 spoon butter chicken (had 1 piece of chicken)

1 spoon lamb curry (had 2 pieces of lamb)

1 tandoori chicken piece (leg piece)

salad – cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce (no dressing)

2 potato fritters (small bite size)

1/4 naan bread

(sounds huge!)

Then I went back and had

1/4 naan bread

1 spoon butter chicken (2 pieces of chicken) but I did not finish it.

Dessert – 1 small bite size indian sweet

Dinner

A glass of milk as still have heart burn from the food…. I feel like I am regurgitating the food and my chest feels so heavy.

Needless to say I cannot even think about dinner and I have no idea how many calories this would have been. I am guessing it would be 2000 calories just on the luncheon. *sigh*

This was the worst lunch I had ever been to. At other restaurants I have been fantastic and I ordered salads with the dressings on the side so I can monitor what is going into the meal. However, lesson learnt today – stay away from Indian buffets.

Luckily, there’s not many in Calgary at all. I think there’s only 3 decent indian restaurants here and this was one of the best ones!!  I will stick to my own cooking :)
